After a strong pestering and
convincing by my friend I had to accept to have our lunch at Rajdhani this
afternoon. The reason for the need for pestering and convincing me is that I
had a big breakfast earlier this morning and from my previous visit to Rajdhani
last time, one thing I learnt is that you gotta really go on a half day fasting
if you are planning to have a lunch feast here. Even though I get convinced
when it comes to lunch invitation by my friend, this time she went a step ahead
and told me “let’s have a lunch treat for you starting with chennaifoodblog.in
and also you can write a review on Rajdhani as your first blog post”. And I
needed no more convincing.
And there we were walking through
the food court of Express Avenue
towards Rajdhani. On entering we were greeted by a man with a pleasing and warm welcome and went on to keep a tilak on our forehead in a
traditional style.
Once we were seated in our place,
they brought a jug and a basinto our table for us
to wash our hands. This traditional way is awesome looking and I liked it for
some other reason, which I found out only after eating. I didn’t have to get up
take a long walk to the wash basin as it comes to your own table.
Once
we were done with washing our hands, we opted for the rajasthani thali and once
the food started coming, it was like a barrage of food.

(left to right) Fruit Sreekand, Aamruz & Keri phanna |
The menu started with the serving of the welcome drink, keri phanna
(smoky raw mango drink) along with the following menu. The dal bhaati churma (a small plate filled with the dal
curry along with crispy and hand broken dal vada, and churma -a sweet crumbles
sprinkled on top and some generous amount of ghee is poured !!),
Puram
puli(thick poli) roti, cocnut rice, kichadi
dahi vada, maal pooah (sweet poori n white creamy thing on top of it),
papad, curd rice, pickle, fruit srikand and aamruz.
Among
the menu my big time favourite was the Aamruz [the mango drink] and I could
help but had to ask for three more filings of the mango drink.

The service was prompt and they refill your plate on a regular basis. The most exciting thing is that the servers employing those Rajdhani styled hand signals to call for specific items (not shouting out for items), thus making the place calm and serene.
Awesome and heavenly are the two
words that come to the top of my mind to describe the food here. The number of dishes is sure to baffle you and the
service is really friendly and the waiters are wonderful too.

The food for two people costs you around 840 Rupees (including all
taxes). And I find it pretty reasonable for such a menu. It might be cheaper or
costlier for people depending on each person’s mindset. So I leave that to the
visitors.
Note: This is not a paid review. It's completely based on my personal experience of having my king size lunch and ofcourse we paid for our own meal. Please check out the comments for some mixed reviews.
